Once it becomes part of your routine, it’s only a matter of time before your skill level and confidence develop.

When I started learning the guitar, there were a couple of learning aids I found to be indispensable. They include:

Learning to Play Guitar Chord Reference Book – This is really helpful when you’re not sure how to play an F chord or a B minor, or want to learn some other ways to play it

Once we covered the chord of the week and the song that went with it, we would tackle a classical piece. One of the best classical books I can recommend, especially if you’re not a classical guitarist, is Classical Studies for Pick-Style Guitar – Volume 1. Today, you can just buy the Van Halen I guitar tab songbook and get all the music for Eruption both in guitar tab and standard notation. Oh, and they also throw in the rest of the songs from Van Halen I, and from Van Halen II, as well. I’ve always loved the whacked-out intro that Eddie plays in Mean Street, which opens the Fair Warning recording. The Van Halen Guitar Anthology Series has the tab for this, note for note, including every last harmonic, pick scrape, bend, and tap. It’s unbelievable. And it’s not just Van Halen. You can find similar guitar tab songbooks for The Beatles, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Nirvana, Green Day, Audioslave and pretty much anyone else you can think of.

Finally, as you develop your practice routine, the one thing most often overlooked during practice is being able to play in time. When you start to get comfortable with chords and strumming, there’s a natural tendency to stop or to hesitate while switching between chords. A good metronome will make you aware of this and force you to play in time. When you are watching a guitarist accompany a singer sometimes you marvel at how fast his or her fingers move to accommodate chord changes. Sometimes a guitar player’s hand even moves at lightning speed from one end of the fretboard to another while at the same time rearranging his fingers into another chord shape. Whether you are have had some experience changing chords or not, you remember what it’s like learning your first chords. Then you find that not only are your fingers not pressing hard enough to make a clean sound, but they are also muffling the open strings. You make some adjustments and, with some breath holding and some eye watering, you manage to make a more or less clean-sounding C chord. Then you look at the F chord and it’s “Oh my Lord, do I REALLY want to do this?”

And quite often people do give up on chord changes after a few attempts. The apparent simplicity in chord changes that we see when we watch guitar players at work masks the complexity of the muscular actions that take place when we change chords. So when we try to play chords we need to remember to try and be aware of the number of small actions we are performing instead of trying to gloss over them.

Select a different set of chords for each day with ten minutes per day for revision.

So, work on changing chords as above, and after a month your changes between open chords should be coming along nicely. Remember YOU are not doing the chord changes, your muscle memory is. Just relax and let it happen. Relaxed hands and arms move faster than tense ones.

One way to help you relax into changing guitar chords is to set your metronome on a very slow speed, strum a chord for four beats, strum the open guitar strings for four beats while you are moving into the next chord shape, then four beats on the next chord. But while you are still a beginner, you can do plenty of practice changing chords without the metronome  until relaxing your muscles while you practice becomes second nature.

Another aspect of chord changes that should become second nature is visualizing each chord as you are taking it. This too should be done slowly. It’s not that you necessarily “see” the placement of your fingers in your mind’s eye but as long as you are confident that you are aware of where and how you are placing your fingers. Your visualization and execution of the chord change will eventually start happening at the same time – IF YOU DON’T RUSH!

Can I select the channels myself?
No and yes. With internet and tv you can dedide which channels you want to watch. But they come in packages (choose between two) so you won’t be able to pick out the channels one by one. There’s two packages to choose from; a standard package and a premium package. The standard package contains all the channels you’ve got on your tv right now. The premium package extends the channel offer. Pick for example Eredivisie Live (all the Dutch football games live on tv) a theme channel (travel, cooking) or HD TV. What do I need for internet and tv?
One of the most important ingredients has got to be a phone line. Not even a connection to that line (so you don’t need a phone at home) but just the line itself. It should be hidden in your house somewhere, just look for a little box. Then of course, you’ll need an internet connection. But you definitely don’t need to get the fastest, most expensive connection. That depends on what you do online.

There are severel internet connections to choose from. Make sure you get the right one, in other words the one that isn’t overprized.
